Petrie, The Protector
I snapped this photo from our french doors yesterday. I love it! It is so telling of Petrie's sweet, protective nature over his hens. I also love the fact that our chickens sleep just beside the back door. I don't know why - it is just precious to watch them happily preen themselves and rest!
Meanwhile, Mrs. Potts is brooding away over her eggs in solitude. Waiting, waiting, waiting. I wonder what this hatch will bring? I am excited for next year when we start getting a few cute mixed breeds between the bantams and Cochins and Spitzhaubens! It should be interesting.
I am also thinking about trying to enter a couple of the girls in the fair. I have separated out a Cochin and Spitz hen. I am nervous though, as I have never entered a chicken in a fair before! I have so many questions.
That's it for today (so far, ha)!
Have a great day all!

So funny that you ask about the Sebrights - I have actually had my eye on some for a while, hoping their owner is willing to part with a few soon. They are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThe fair is just a general, local fair with a section for chickens. I don't much care if I win or not, I just think it would be fun!!
so cool!
ReplyDeletePetrie is a pretty cool fella lol!
DeleteAwww I love this photo. Petrie looks like such a great protector! My rooster, Cam, is the same way. It's so neat to see how roosters never eat treats and instead call the hens over to eat them, and how they are always on alert for threats when they are out free ranging. It's so chivalrous!
ReplyDeleteIt'll be so fun to see your mixed breeds! We let one of our hens hatch out some chicks for the first time this year and it has been so fascinating to see what traits were passed down from the moms to the chicks.
I know, a good rooster is so fun to watch and really a priceless addition to a flock. So glad to have him!
Deletebeautiful!
