Excuses, Thanksgiving, and Snow!!

It has been too long since I have been able to blog!!  I promise I have a good reason though.... I guess I get right down to that first.

And thus come the excuses.  I am so thrilled to finally be expecting, but I have been really pretty sick since about a week after we found out.  I haven't been outside much with my fur babies since activity makes my sickness worse.  Everyone says it usually ends around 12 weeks and I am currently about 10.5 weeks along, so hopefully I will be feeling myself soon!!  Until bear with me, as the posts may be a tad sparse at times.

Ben and I are SO excited though, to bring our own kiddo into this world.  We are excited to share our love of the outdoors and animals with our children and watch them enjoy gathering eggs and riding ponies and cuddling kitties and planting gardens as much as we do!

Thanksgiving was a blast.  We ate tons of food and had smoked turkey.  Need I say more?

We have already gotten a really big snow this year, and it is so early!  Here are a few pictures from today:

(The puppy belongs to my sister, she is a very sweet Australian Shepard.)

Everyone have a great weekend, and be safe if it is as snowy where you are as it is here!

Frost on the Roses

A few days ago, we got our first very hard frost and it looked so pretty on the roses.  I snapped a few pictures to share with you all!

Have a great day, everyone!

Geese Just Wanna Have Fu-hun!

Rare it is that I find an animal that I just can't live with.  Unfortunately this little farmer found out pretty quick, though, that geese were not my thing.  It wasn't because they became aggressive as many said they would.  I had no problems with them being mean to me.  It was this strange habit they'd developed... of chewing on our house!  All day I would hear them pecking and chewing and pulling on our siding and the wood frames around the doors.  The reason?  I really think they did it because they were bored.  They are built to swim and all I had for them to play in was a tiny kiddie pool!

Thankfully, we had a great solution.  My parents recently bought some land behind their home which just happens to include a gorgeous, very large pond.

So this is their new home now.  We will get to visit them and Mom and Dad have been giving us updates on them.  The second day they were there, a huge flock of Canadian geese came to visit!  Mom and Dad said they were right in the middle of them, having the time of their little goosie lives.

I will be sure to take my camera next time we go to give you all an update on their new and improved lives.  Meanwhile, the chickens and the doggies and the cats and pony are all a lot happier.  The geese were getting awful bad to bite everyone, from the dogs to even Bill when he tried to eat hay!!

So I have learned my lesson.  No more waterfowl until we have a pond for them!!  Swimming is very important when you have a body shaped like a boat and paddles for feet!

Last of Autumn's Color

It is supposed to hard freeze on Tuesday night!  I think it will do in the pretty roses and anything else still living.  Ben and my Dad winter-proofed the dog house and the chicken house yesterday, so we are ready!!  Here are a few of my favorite pictures of this autumn season:

Have a great week everyone!

World of Color

The leaves are just starting to change!!  I love this time of year!
The trees just near the chicken coop:
Oh and speaking of color...
Isn't he gorgeous?  Looks just like he did the day I brought him home from the fair!
Arwen being too cute not to photograph.
And speaking of breakfast.... someone was a little irritated with me being late to breakfast this morning.  Aura is letting me have it!
I know the video quality needs help and my porch is a mess (thank you chickens) but I thought this was just too cute and funny not to share.

Have a great day LBL readers!!  And thanks for all of your sweet comments.  :)

Corn Maze!

Contrary to popular belief, I have not fallen off the face of the earth.  Yet.  Haha!  I recently accepted a new job position at the company I work for (I work from home which is awesome) and it has kept me VERY busy.  Busy is good and means more money, but I have also had a hard time keeping my blogging schedule stable.  I have also been having some scary computer problems.  Bear with me!

I have tried about five times in the last week to upload this post... let's see if we can get it to work today!

We had great fun going to the local corn maze with some friends from church last weekend.  This was my first maze I'd ever been too, and I think the experience was quite good!

First I admired these wildflowers.  So pretty!

To go into the maze, we had to watch a video.  It was pretty hilarious (and cheesy).
The maze itself was... interesting.  I spent my time just walking and helping watch the other kiddos from church to make sure they didn't wander off (it is incredibly easy to do I learned)!  My sister and some other less directionally-challenged people than myself lead the way...

And finally got us out after about an hour.  Not bad!
Next we got to visit with some incredibly cute animals...

And now I am desperately wanting a llama...
So cute!  That does it for our corn maze adventures.  Hope you enjoyed it!

The Best Zucchini Bread

Remember the giant zucchini I picked a back a while ago?
Well I ended up getting another one.  I had to figure out what to do with these zucchinis fast!  Then I remembered that my Mom made zucchini bread some time back that was DELICIOUS.  She got it out of a church cookbook we have, and I am gonna share it with you because I am nice like that.  Heehee!
Everything you need.
Zucchini Bread

- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup oil
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 cups unpeeled, grated zucchini
- 1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:  Mix ingredients in order given.  Bake in 2 sprayed loaf pans 1 hour at 350 degrees.
Grated zucchini.
I just can't stay away from this stuff.  If it is around, I eat it until it is gone.  It is so moist and delicious!!

Fall is Coming to Little Bitty Life

Today was incredibly rainy... I am not sure how many inches we got in all but it was at least 2-3 inches.  But towards the end of the day, the sun popped out for just a bit which made it a perfect time to take pictures.  You see, tonight it is getting very cold for the first time this season and the leaves will be turning and the grass will be dying!  So I wanted to get the last of summer's green leaves and plants while I could.  I know tomorrow is not the technical "first day of fall", but for us it sure will be in terms of colder temps!
Some leaves are already starting to slowly turn.
Is he not just precious??  Love this pony!!
Sweet doggies.
Someone was having a bad hair day from the rain.  Heehee.
Someone else was in a picture mood today!
Grumpy geese followed me everywhere, protesting.
Gyppie in the trees.
Gyppie feeling good in the cool air!

I hope my roses last a while longer.
Sweet pony ears.
The grand finale of warm weather ended with a rainbow.  Fitting, I think.
Oh, and one other thing.  I have been wanting to try some essential-oil scented goat's milk soap for ages now!  I finally picked some up at the natural food store today.  It is citrus-mint scented.... such a soothing smell!!  I can't wait to use it!
Have a great rest of your weekend... and if it is going to get chilly where you are, stay warm!
