Cows

The neighbors (who run a cattle ranch) let their cows out in the pasture near our house yesterday.  To my delight, I noticed there were some newborn calves in the bunch!  Of course, I took a couple pictures.
I got super close to this little guy.
My favorite shot.

Bill is rather indifferent to the cows, lol.
I hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. Really cool photo series.

How come there are babies at this time of year? Is that normal for cows?

    1. Thanks Lizzi - and that is a good question! I think they can calve year-round, with the farmers pretty much determining when that is by the times the allow the bulls to run with the herd. But then, I am no cow rancher so that might be totally off lol!

    2. Okay! Cool! I guess the farmers can rig it to happen whenever they're ready. I just always equated baby animals with springtime. But I guess that'd be a LOT of work for the farmer if they all popped at once.

  2. Beautiful shots! I enjoyed them! You had some wall hangers in your camping group of shots, too! I don't know if you guys get on backyardchickens.com or not, but they are having a 2014 calendar picture contest. You can enter 2 pics. I entered two, but won't get any where with them...lol.

    I can't believe I made a blog list...lol. Thank you very much!!!

    1. You have great shots as well - if you don't get anywhere with them I'd be surprised! I shall have to check this contest out. :)

  4. Calves are so darn cute! And cows are pretty good looking, too, as long as they are on the other side of that fence. :)
