Chicken Chatter

Just wanted to update you all on Mrs. Potts and her babies.  We counted a total of ten her first day, and yesterday when I went to check on them there were only eight!  I found that two had remained in the brooder house and looked awful... so bad I thought one was already dead.  However, I isolated these two under a heat lamp for the entire day and they came right back to life!  I returned them yesterday evening, and everyone seems to be doing great as of right now.  However, I did check on Mrs. Potts and her crew later in the day and found one dead.  Sad!  But it is just part of raising chicks... you always seem to loose at least one.  I will continue to monitor them very closely so that they can grow into big healthy chickens!

I also wanted to give you all a quick topknot update.  Isn't that just BEAUTIFUL?!  They are getting so big!  This weekend they will get to finally go outside, and I just know they are going to love it.  I will move them into a holding area for a few weeks before I put them with the bantams.  I want to make sure Mrs. Potts and her crew are ready for company!

 Have a marvelous day y'all!

  2. :((( I always admire people who keep a farm. It has to be hard to develop relationships with animals and then lose them.

    1. It does have its times that are tough! But for me, it is very much worth the heartache involved. :) Holding a baby chick that doesn't seem to weigh much more than a raindrop, teaching a horse to trust when it could not trust before, sharing naps with cats, running with the dogs... I could go on and on! I have cried many a tear over the tough times, but smiled far more often at the sweet, funny, and crazy things they do!
