A Giant Hairball, Mismatched Socks, and Runny Poo

Well now that is some kind of title, isn't it??
The hairball culprit said to tell you all hello...

I woke up this morning to a giant hairball on the floor in our bedroom.  Yayness.  If you ever discover a giant hairball on your floor, take it from me and go back to bed RIGHT THEN because the rest of your day is going to be spent in PANIC!!  You know.  It's like, a hairball omen... I bet if you looked close enough, you could read some cryptic message in the hairball.  A foreshadowing that things will soon get hairy and pukey.  But let's be real...

First thing this morning, after typing a medical report, I went to feed the animals.  As usual, I make sure to do a poo inspection to see if everyone is healthy.  Well, Bill apparently has gotten too much green grass because his poo is not... um... normal.  And then I go to check on my main chickens and I found some normal poo but with what I *think* was a bit of a blood tinge.  Of course, I am panicking and watching them every second, fearing that it is coccidiosis.  So far everyone looks good, so my hope is that it was simply one of them shedding some intestinal lining, which is normal.  As the day wore on, however, I discovered that one of my goslings is developing a strange underbite where the top beak is much shorter than the bottom.  Again, panic.  I have put in a question on a chicken group I am a part of in hopes someone can give me some insight on what to do for my little gosling.

Oh, and story from yesterday - I let Mrs. Potts and her brood out after it had rained and things dried a little.  Of course I had no idea that at that exact moment a downpour would ensue, soaking Mrs. Potts and the chicks.  I (in a panic of course) opened the brooder house and shooed Mrs. Potts in.  Most of her brood followed... but one didn't.  And I couldn't catch the little devil for nothin'.  I stepped back to see if he would find his way in on his own, and then Mrs. Potts came out again with her entire brood, getting soaked.  This happened like 50 times before I finally just shut the brooder door and made like a mad woman all over that coop until I caught a very loudly protesting chick and put him with his family.  FER SHAME!!

The scary part?  This day is not over!!  Ha.  So for the time being, I am going to focus on some random things that make me happy, and share them with you.
Tree frog came for a visit!
Strange fact:  I am in love with this frame.  It inspires me!
Other strange fact:  I ADORE non-matching socks!  I go out of my way to make sure they don't match, in fact.

Happiness is mismatched socks.
Hummingbirds, yay!
A delicious salad for lunch.
These little blessings are reminders to me that I have been given so much more than I deserve from God.  So here is to hoping for firmer poo, less hairballs, and more miss-matched socks on this crazy Friday!

  1. LOL great title. The minis are such little piggies with the fresh grass. I love the socks - I can never ever find matching socks and it ends up taking so much time I just completely give up so now I'll just be like you and actually prefer it that way! Love the tree frog! They are so adorable.

  2. Love it. I am glad you rescued the little bugger. I have rabbits and my babies used to dig themselves out too. bad idea we have a hawk in the neighborhood. I always panic and chase them around the yard until I get them back to safety. :)

I have a cat too who has lots of hairballs. Life is good.
