Special Day for a Special Kitty

Meet our new baby, Little Bitty Life followers!

Since the loss of our precious cat, Chico, we have wanted to give another kitty the chance at a simple, fun, fulfilling life in the country.  At first we thought about getting a kitten, but the more we researched the more we learned about how hard it can sometimes be for adult cats to be adopted out.  This made us want to try to adopt an adult cat, to give them a second chance!  After searching two other shelter/rescues today, we finally came to find this sweet girl.

This kitty (Mariposa is her name from her foster parent) was the quiet one we noticed when we walked into PetsMart.  She seemed to take everything in quietly and calmly.  When we went behind the viewing area and into the petting area, Mariposa sat right up on her hind legs and looked at usShe just seemed to say "pick me!  I'm your kitty!"  It didn't take long at all to decide she was the one.  She was content to lay in our laps and just be petted.  We signed lots of papers and got her tags and headed home.  She did so wonderfully!

Once we got her home, we put her in the dark, quiet laundry room with lots of food and water and her litter box.  She is a little shy about this big new house, but she is oh-so-friendly and cuddly!  I have spent lots of time already with her.  She loves to find tiny places to hide in.  It is so cute!  Over the next few days and months, we will slowly introduce Aura, Pearl, and Siri to our new girl.  We've got plenty of time and since I am home all day, I can watch Mariposa to make sure she is adjusting well.  I have no doubt we have picked the right kitty!  She is a real sweetheart!

Now the real question - anyone have any good name suggestions?  We were thinking Gypsy....

  1. Oh she is so pretty!

I would take your time and see what names come to you - but Gypsy is a good one, regardless...

    1. We thought so, too! I love the short version, "Gyppie" as well. It is so cute and seems to fit her. I'm thinkin' it just might stick!

I'm so happy to see little Mari on your blog. She looks happy already. Her name means Butterfly and it was given to her by her first adoptive parents. I called her Mari Mariposa in a singsong voice while she was in our foster home. She is a bit shy at first but is very affectionate once she warms up to you. She is a little bundle of joy and playfulness. We hope she brings as much happiness and fun to your home as she did in the several months that she was with us.

  3. What a beautiful cat! Gorgeous eyes. I like the name Gypsy! I always give my animals a middle name, so hers could be Gyppie Mari! :)

    1. I think that is a good idea! That way she retains a bit of her old name and still gets a new one. I have been calling her Gyppie quite a lot, and I think it fits her well. :)
